PAX West 2019

4 09 2019

At this years Penny Arcade Expo (now called PAX West instead of PAX Prime), I was able to check out all the new games and tech coming out in the next year. This year, I was able to try out the Stadia, I played Mortal Kombat 11 on a phone and the graphics looked great and the response time from the controller felt normal. I hope they do what they can promise, I am still reminded on OnLive and hope they don’t go down the same path.

The most common gaming accessory being shown off at the show was racing equipment, some of the major hardware suppliers were showing off the latest racing games you can play in a simulated race car.

One of the most popular games being shown were Borderlands 3, I was unable to play this game because the line was always capped.

Other games shown were Teppen, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy Online, Links Awakening, Predator: Hunting Grounds, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Kerbal Space Program 2, and there was plenty of indie games in the Indie MegaBooth.

The eSports area had plenty of tournaments going on, there was a US Army Call of Duty Tournament for $5K, and there was a Rocket League tournament for $5K.

They also moved the Table top to the Regency and turned the basement to console freeplay. But, overall it was a fun experience and look forward to the next one.

More Animations/Levels for Mystic Mayhem Unleashed #ScreenshotSaturday

25 11 2018

Hi Everyone! This week I Added a new bad guy and created new levels for Mystic Mayhem Unleashed (see above image for “Terrible Turnip” bad guy). When Max get close to the turnip, it will lunge and try to bite him.

Also a couple of weeks ago I presented Mystic Mayhem Unleashed at the Seattle Indies Show and Tell at the Living Computer Museum. There I met other awesome indie game developers and was able to check out their games. Also people tried out MMU and gave great feedback! I will be adding the recommendations to the game over time.

The game is getting really close to have public trials. Hopefully by the end of the year (2018) I will have a full fledged demo available for people to play.

Please be sure to check back at this site to get updates on the game.

To see more about the Seattle Indies Show and Tell check it out here.

PAX 2018

4 09 2018

dav

This years Penny Arcade Expo was more packed than other years. But but noticeably the arrangement of booths was quite awkward. For example they put a championship live stream in one of the main booth area, making it hard to get around. Also the booth attracted too many lines causing traffic.

dav

There were plenty of major studios showing off their latest games. Sony showing off the new Spider-man game, Xbox with new Forza, also some major gaming system manufacturers showed off their latest motherboards and systems.

sdr

Also what was new was they put a Fortnite championship outside the convention center. They had free food and drink while you watch professional gamers shoot it out on the big screen.

The Convention center is supposed to get an expansion in the next two years. Hopefully this can spread out the booths allowing them to get the traffic without causing other people to miss out on seeing other sights.

San Diego Comic Con 2018

23 07 2018

dav

This years comic con in San Diego was pretty packed in video game goodness. I was lucky enough to get a Thursday and Sunday pass to the conference. Most of the major studios showed off to show off their latest stuff on the convention floor. This year we had some major big budget games that were shown, they included: Resident Evil 2 Remake from Capcom, Black Ops IV, A new Smash Bros and a new Pokemon adventure from Nintendo, and also Kingdom Hearts III and Spider-man from Sony.

There were even some promotional things from movies based on games, there was an enormous statue of a gorilla for the movie Rampage.

In the stadium across from the convention center, they had a Rocket League championship going on, visitors got free swag and got to see some real-life version of the cars shown in the game, including the Bat-mobile and the Back to the Future car.

Indie Games were not that prevalent this year at the con. Probably because of the rising cost of getting a booth. There were some panels showcasing some indie games and marketing strategies. Maybe we will see more indie games out next year.

New Game Announcement!

23 05 2018

After some time working on Beyond the Infinite Abyss, I decided to work on Mystic Mayhem Unleashed. I am now converting the original game to Unity, this will give me more flexibility to deploy to other platforms with less maintenance. The sequel with continue off from the first game and will make the stakes bigger. Also, I will be working on getting it ready for PC (steam), PS4, and Xbox One. I will also be including the original game (redesigned in new engine) to the new version.

MMUu

In the coming days I will be showing off some of the levels and new graphics updates. Please be sure to follow on Facebook where I will be doing a live demo/development also.

Pax Prime 2017 Highlights

27 09 2017

Another year of Pax Prime at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle Washington. The line to get in was quite odd, but a little  improvement. Instead of waiting to get in from the back of the convention, they made people wait in the overpass next door, which confused alot of people. but if you had waited an hour after it opened, you did not have to worry about any line at all to get in.

This year, there were more VR showcases, such a Skyrim VR in the Bethesda booth, a bunch of Playstation VR games (sparc?), and Dell was showing their new VR set.

Another theme I noticed was that there were plenty of “Ride the ___ and take a picture” themes at most of the booths. Mostly dinosaurs or dragons.

Speaking of dragons, the Dungeons and Dragons crew aka Wizards of the Coast was a no show this year which disappointed some people.

The swag this year was quite an improvement to over years, more T-Shirts, hats, and mouse-pads were given out to the attendees who checked out the latest games. Also, if you traveled a block away form the event, you can find a Monster Energy truck giving away their new soda, and Nissin was giving away cases of their Cup o’ Noodles. In the area, I was lucky enough to run into the creators of the show and Penny Arcade comic (Tycho and Gabe). They were cool enough to sign my badge.

There were also plenty of Indie games you can buy, this year I got the latest Shovel Knight, and Broken age from the Limited Indie Run booth. Also, I got the Hunted Halloween 86 for the NES (yes, the original), the sequel to the one they made last year, which was quite fun. Other indie games had an impact this year, Nintendo has their Nindies area, after waiting in line for a couple hours, you get to play all the new indie games coming to the Switch in the next year and get to talk to the Develpers who made this. I was able to play to the next Shovel Knight: King of Cards, Floor Kids – a dance off game, Sausage Sports Club – A four player mini games  match, Super Meat Boy Forever – Super Meat Buy Sequel, they announced  No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again, but did not show it off at the area.

Overall, this was a fun show, but drains the life out of you if you wait in the lines. Next year, the convention center should have expended a large mount of square footage, I wonder what the layout will be…

#indiegames and #gamedev Now at San Diego Comic-Con 2017

1 08 2017

This year I was lucky enough to be able to attend to this years Comic-Con in San Diego, California. I was able to see the latest in games, movies, TV, and other entertainment.  The expo hall at the convention center in downtown San Diego was well organized, all of the gaming companies where in  one section of the hall (the end). Here you can see the latest games from Xbox, Capcom, Nintendo, Blizzard, and Namco Bandai (see pics below).  Nintendo was showing off their latest game, Super Mario Odyssey. Capcom was showing off Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. Xbox was showing the latest from Shadow of Mordor series. Also Bandai was showing Tekken 7,

Also, as a convention first, they introduced a Indie Game Meetup called Game Creator Connection, here you can meet with industry experts to get feedback on your game and get sage advice on anything in the field. The only drawback I had we only had time to only meet one expert. Hopefully next year, they can extend it to more. Also during the meetup, you can meet other industry types, such as freelance artists (such as Erik Arreaga  (pic below)), 3D artists, and other developers.

FB_20170724_19_40_48_Saved_Picture

Also at the con you get to meet various independent artists in other fields such as movies and comics. This year I was able to meet Lloyd Kaufman, creator of the epicly awesome Toxic Avenger and his new pic Return to Return to Class of Nuke’Em High Vol 2.

Lloyd Kaufman and Toxie

Comic con is also a great place to be inspired to work on future projects an see what other technologies the entertainment field is coming up with.
