Pax 2012 and Mystic Mayhem Update

4 09 2012

This weekend was quite a busy one. I was fortunate enough to get into PAX Prime this Labor Day Weekend and checked out some of the latest games, even watched some of the League of Legends Tournament. Here are some pics below:

During the show I was able to visit the Indie Mega Booth and checked out some great games, such as Octodad:Deadliest Catch (Awesome), Guacamelee (Great Co-op!), and even Johann Sebastian Joust (WTF)

There were also plenty of sequels such as Assassins Creed 3, Epic Mickey 2, and Halo 4.  Also there were some new games such as Defiance which was a mix of team death-match (PvP) and MMO mix. There was also Dishonored, a mix of time stopping, body snatching, and steampunk-ish flavor.

Also, over the weekend Mystic Mayhem was released to the Xbox Live Indie Games Marketplace.

When I got back from PAX I went over some users concerns and was able to create an update for the game, which include:

– slowing down menu speed

– improved graphics on Survival Mode

– Fixed flicker issue [culling] in 3D mode [Adventure Mode]

The update is in Test right now and show reach market some time next week.

Dev Update – Mystic Mayhem

18 08 2012

It is getting close to release and I was able to add additional update to the game. Some time ago I saw this video and motivated me to do an update to the shader [HLSL] to make the items glow to give more ambiance to the interactive items in the game. I have also fixed some loading/parsing [CultureInfo] issues for international customers.
Below are some samples of the graphics updates. Enjoy 🙂

Mystic Mayhem Updates and New Wallpapers

Features and Updates

Since my last post, there have been plenty of updates and features added to the game. Hopefully it is in its final sprint before being deployed to XBLIG portal. Some of the new updates include a compass to help Max (the Hero) find keys and doors.

Also, the Survival mode has a new UI design update. Survival mode is basically a separate game on top of the adventure mode (it’s two games in one!). In survival mode, you are Max piloting an airplane dodging obstacles in its path, along the way you can encounter wind gusts that can flip the plane (and your controls).

A couple weeks ago I was able to go to San Diego Comic Con and met some awesome comic book artists, I was able to get some of their interpretations of Max. Be sure to check out their sites below the picture.

Submitted to DBP and New Trailer

18 06 2012

After a couple of weeks of development I have been tightening up those graphics on level 3 and polishing those grass textures (j/k) finally submitted to Dream Build Play 2012 under the Xbox section. You can find the entry by visiting the link below. Currently I am adding updates/features for the survival mode to make it more entertaining. Also I have had the game in “playtest” in the Microsoft App hub to get more community feedback.

Also  a couple weeks ago I had the chance to demo my game at the Indie Games Festival (iFest) at downtown Seattle, met some great industry leaders and got some very helpful feedback for the game. All of the feedback I recieved will hopefully be implemented by this weekend or the following weekend.

Here is the new trailer for the game:

Mystic Mayhem Update

13 05 2012

It has been a while since I have given a blog update on the game. So far the game now has a lighting system and improved graphics. Also found and fixed the hardware instancing so now it runs more smoothly. Also added some new bad guys and some more obstacles. I have been at the meantime creating and improving animations for all of the characters. Also been working on the intro screens and ending screens. Less than four weeks until the DBP2012 competition is over so I can take a break =)

Below are pics of the game in progress, enjoy:
